Chit Juan and her ABC’s in Traveling

When it comes to traveling, Chit Juan has mastered the ABC’s of traveling. In fact, she has traveled and roamed the world in her quest to revive the Philippine coffee industry, visiting places as diverse as the Benguet highlands to the cosmopolitan city of Cologne.

As CEO of the Figaro chain of coffee shops, Chit has elevated the native barako (Philippine liberica) into a world-class brew and introduced Filipinos to the café culture of Europe, a place which remains one of her all-time favorite destinations.

Chit caught the travel bug at an early age, thanks to her father’s penchant for rewarding academic achievement with trips abroad. “I learned more from my travels than in any classroom,” says Chit, who credits her frequent foreign trips with widening her outlook on life and fueling her interest in current events of local and national importance. “A wealth of information awaits every traveler on each journey,” she enthuses. Indeed, Chit has always made the most of every trip and voraciously absorbs each destination’s unique lifestyle and culture, particularly the local delicacies and coffee. Chit’s recent travels have seen her representing the country in various trade fairs and conventions, or overseeing operations in Figaro’s flagship foreign branches in Shanghai and Dubai.

Her many sojourns have made Chit a luggage connoisseur, amassing a variety of pieces that suit her diverse travel needs. “When I travel locally, I use a carryall for business, and a duffel or backpack for trips to the beach,” she shares. Trips abroad call for sturdiness and storage, and for that, Chit turns to her trusty Samsonites. Chit buys luggage once every two years, and cites durability and space-saving functionalities as key factors in choosing her suitcases. “[A piece of luggage] has to withstand the wear and tear of travel,” she stresses. With a wide range of luggage brands available, The Travel Club has become a one-stop shop for Chit’s traveling essentials.

I think that luggage stores like The Travel Club are very convenient and timely, especially since more and more Filipinos are traveling these days,” she points out, adding that the store can help educate first-time travelers. Indeed, The Travel Club is staffed with courteous and informative attendants who are always on call to answer every customer’s queries about gear and travel in general.

Chit shares a few tips for the neophyte traveler. “Always look professional to avoid being overly discriminated by immigration officers,” she insists, adding that bad clothing calls undue attention to one’s self. Chit also reminds vacationers to bring a first aid kit, travel-sized toiletries, a change of clothing and extra local currency in one’s carryall, in case of emergencies. But more importantly, Chit encourages travelers to take advantage of the opportunities that are presented by travel, and not to scrimp on a lifetime of memories. “Careful planning helps maximize one’s budget, and allows you to enjoy as many new experiences as possible,” she imparts. “And that, for me, is priceless.” Intrepid and worldly wise, Chit Juan personifies the seasoned traveler.

The perfect journey begins with the right bag. For premium luggage and other traveling needs, visit The Travel Club at SM City Cebu and other SM malls nationwide.
