A Distasteful Man Called WILLIE REVILLAME

From the very beginning, I never really liked Willie Revillame much more Wowowee. I never introduced my child to watch him neither pronounce his name and would often get upset at our helpers or nannies at home whenever they would watch the show with my daughter. I mean it is alright for our nannies to watch Wowowee then but only when my daughter was asleep or not around. I always thought he was a very rude, distasteful man who would want to win the hearts of the poor through their own weaknesses: money. Everyone praised him as if he was the God when no one ever thought that these monetary gifts came from sponsors. And I was right in the first place when he threatened to resign at ABS-CBN just because a reporter was criticizing him. Well, who is he not to be criticized? Willie thought he was the God until the gods of ABS-CBN came down to judge him.

Another powerful man in the name of Manny Pangilinan came and rescue him thinking that Willie Revillame could give fame and fortune to TV 5 through another variety show dubbed as Willing Willie. This time around, they tested the market by doing it on a time slot when every local channels would air news and teleseryes. Brilliant but not enough. Since then, many had despised Willie. His actions revealed that he is not only a crass but a person who was tagged as, “walang utang na loob.” A Filipino statement that means someone who is ungrateful. Yes, he was ungrateful to think that many years back, Willie Revillame had already lost everything he had. Fame, fortune with so many debts to pay and houses forfeited by the government. ABS-CBN gave him more than he ever deserved. Much more that even the powerful TV network could no longer tolerate Revillame’s rowdy behavior.

Proof of this behavior was when he posted a big billboard of his new show at TV 5 Willieng Willie at his vacant lot (supposedly Will mall) right in front of ABS-CBN. Another crass attitude that he showed was when humiliated his best friend, John Estrada during the opening of Willing Willie because the latter was offered an opportunity to work for ABS-CBN as one of the main hosts in a new noontime show Happy Yipee Yehey. The very ill-mannered Revillame showed on TV just exactly the type of person he is when he got upset at a best friend and promised not to attend the wedding as John’s “best man.” And he never really did.

The most recent behavior that he showed totally got everyone furious when he placed a six-year old boy in such a humiliating situation. Willie Revillame was so desperate to win the public’s interest that he had totally gone mad and ran out of control. His being insensitive and uncivilized was caught on cam and has gone viral. In fact, it is now a public issue. As a parent, I can never imagine a child being dragged on national TV to dance like a macho dancer much more when tears are running down his eyes already. On the other hand, Willie Revillame should not be the only one to be blamed on this. The parents must also answer this issue because it is very apparent that the father (who could be gay since the child confirms that he works for a parlor) was the one who taught his son to do the indecent dance. He didn’t even think that he was putting his son to such humiliation.  

Today, I am just so glad to read that DSWD is doing something about this issue. In an article that came out at Philippine Daily Inquirer written by Leila B. Salaverria, Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman had written a letter to TV 5’s Manny Pangilinan and asked him to rebuke Revillame for his “insensitive and deplorable actions,” and not to allow young children to appear in Willing Willie and other shows that cash in on the plight of the poor. She even added that, Revillame taunted the dancing boy, nicknamed “Jan-Jan,” as tears streamed down his cheeks. “Persuading a little child to dance sexy adult dances in exchange for a measly sum, while he is being laughed at and ridiculed will definitely traumatize the child,” Soliman said in her letter.

It was also noted that Willie Revillame and the rest of TV 5’s Willing Willie apologizes for such act saying that it was never their intention to humiliate or abuse the six-year old Jan Jan. They even made a lame excuse such as, “the boy appeared to be sad or even in tears, not because he was being forced to dance, but because he felt the dance was ‘serious’ and he was playing a role. He did not want to smile because of his missing upper front teeth and because of the presence on the set of former basketball player Bonel Balingit whom Jan-Jan thought was a scary ‘giant.’”

Don’t call me bias. I may be but these are just mere recounts of issues behind the real Willie Revillame’s stupid acts and behavior. You be the judge.

Amidst the up and coming fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito are stories and videos posted on the Internet about the pound for pound champ and of course, his line of business like Manny Pacquiao clothing and the newest fragrance to hit the global market– MP7.

A few days ago, I had a three-hour meeting in Makati and forgot about having lunch since I had to rush to another meeting in Manila. After which, I went to Robinson’s Place Manila to grab something for a late lunch at 4:30pm. While walking, I bumped into a small store with lots of Pacquiao stuff inside. It carries a sign that says TEAM PACQUIAO. I didn’t have any intentions of buying anything but the stocks they have inside were quite amazing. Their shirts boast of creative designs, pleasant colors and good quality. Well, it should be. It’s Manny Pacquiao’s!

Boulevard Holdings to invest additional P40 million in Fridays Hotel

MANILA, Philippines – Publicly listed Boulevard Holdings Inc. (BHI) will infuse an additional P40 million into its Fridays Hotel unit in Boracay Island from internally generated funds. Fridays Boracay will use the money for the acquisition of additional property within Boracay for its resort expansion.

A portion of the money will be allocated for the refurbishment and rehabilitation of its existing facilities while the business is on its low season. The planned project activities are scheduled in preparation for the nearly fully booked high season that starts in October of this year up through June 2010 based on advance bookings already received from regular and satisfied foreign and local clients.

Mauro Badiola, BHI vice president for finance, said that the parent company regularly receives reports from its subsidiary that currently does not bode well for the performance of hotels in Boracay Island. “The report of our General Manager, Mr. Barry Schofield, recently indicated that tourism in Boracay is being hammered by several factors: The dwindling visits of the regional Western expat travelers and local elite clients, the recent stoppage since June 25 of virtually all direct flights to Caticlan (and diversion to Kalibo) by Zest Air, Cebu Pacific, and PAL due to plane size to runway safety considerations, the swine flue, the recent direct hits from the last few typhoons, and overall disappearance in global demand for travel services. Everyone is suffering for now, even the newly opened ones like the Shangri La Boracay.”

Nevertheless, Badiola added “that when the economy picks up even through traditional peak travel seasons, the first thing people will do is reward themselves and their family with some quality but affordable vacation. We remain confident that the Philippine government tirelessly promotes its tourism assets abroad, and foresee some move upward in overall tourism traffic also as long as hotels – elite or budget – but keep their prices affordable and reasonable, in relation to value experienced by the client.”

Another unit of BHI, Fridays Boquete Island, continues to focus on the ongoing construction of its 85-room boutique hotel in the lagoons of Puerto Galera. Expected soft opening is scheduled within the first quarter of 2010. With this in mind, the public company plans to raise an additional P80 million, largely from disposal of some of its assets abroad and from within. BHI is a stakeholder and partner of Gems Cayman which owns Hong Kong-based Gems International, which in turn is a partner of Macquarie in operating another fund manager, called ARF Investment Managemet Ltd., managing the Asia Resourdces Fund Ltd. (ARFL). ARFL is now on its fund-raising activity.

BHI company CEO, J. Marcel Panlilio, stated that, “at some point BHI’s cash will be a large fraction of its market value, and so, we must channel funds to what we see as good growth but proven businesses such as resort chain development. Also BHI has an extensive set of beach properties throughout the Philippines, so the investment yield won’t be too diluted with the land acquisition aspect.”

To fully complete its resort chain investment, BHI intends all in all to raise about P650 million from a combination of asset disposals, internally generated funds, and private placement with foreign private equity.

Golf champ Tiger Woods seem to have lost his nice, wholesome, gentlemanly image with a scorned woman’s plot to destroy him.  Joslyn James, a former porn star and Tiger Woods’ alleged mistress for months, recently launched her new website that features nitty gritty details of Tiger Woods’ wild (and violent) appetite for sex via explicit text messages sent by the latter.

Poor Tiger, who just came out of a therapy trying to fix his (married) life. Why some kids don’t like going to the dentist

My daughter’s favorite past times before she hits the sack include reading books, playing with mommy and daddy, singing and watching her favorite bed time children stories on You Tube. One holiday afternoon, we were watching You Tube when we discovered this very funny video about David. The video was obviously taken and uploaded by his father, who knew that he shouldn’t let go of this one special and funny moment. David, who came from a surgical operation from his dentist, looks drugged. And yes David, this is REAL LIFE.

Well, perhaps this is the reason why some kids don’t like going to the dentist. Hehe. Okay. I don’t want to spoil the surprise. Enjoy the video.

At about 15 minutes after 12 noon, the Seair pilots tried to break as normal on touchdown but did not succeed so let the heavy twin-turboprop Dornier 328 run at first, then applied the breaks again which made the plane veer extremely right almost tipping on that side.  Having lost control of steering control (or the right wheel did not come down from the undercarriage on time) the pilots’ decided to go into the muddy grass side of the runway, hitting the runway lights parts onto the tarmac.  The emergency action successfully embedded the uncontrollable wheels and steering of the plane into the mud for a full sudden stop.

 

Thank God for seatbelts.  Also, having owned an airline before, the problem is not pilot error but mechanical in that either steering control or the undercarriage wheels’ timing device were the problem.

Domestic runway now closed due to broken parts on runway and part of Dornier 328’s left wing partially jutting on tarmac.  Passengers remained for 10 minutes in the plane until emergency and rescue arrived. Seair ground staff were excellent, cheering passengers onto the bus with first aid offered on the side.  They even fetched the bags and pet animals from cargo to save from suffocation in the heat of the day.

Many of the passengers after the very strong jolt forward from the stoppage joked how they’re almost done paying for their homes in Cavite and this had to happen, etc.  This was a sign of how shocked they were, that required the typically Pinoy jokes to mask and smoothen the realization that the plane crash could have been far more harmful and fatal.  Many will pray fervently in gratitude tonight.

Were the pilots of Seair not quick-thinking to get into the grass fast, the uncontrollable plane was set to lie on its side with the right propeller cutting into the fuselage killing passengers and all.  From the photos, all the wheels of the plane’s undercarriage are bent.

Thank God always, we are safe.

BHI SUBSCRIBES TO ADDITIONAL P40M IN FRIDAYS

Publicly listed Boulevard Holdings, Inc. (stock symbol “BHI”) will inject an additional P40M into its Fridays Hotel unit in Boracay Island from internally generated funds. Fridays Boracay will use the money for the acquisition of additional property within Boracay for its resort expansion.

A portion of the monies will be allocated for the refurbishment and rehabilitation of its existing facilities while the business is on its low season. The planned project activities are scheduled in preparation for the nearly fully booked high season that starts in October of this year up through June 2010 based on advance bookings already received from regular and satisfied foreign and local clients.

Mauro Badiola, BHI’s VP for Finance, stated that the parent company regularly receives reports from its subsidiary that currently does not bode well for the performance of hotels in Boracay Island. “The report of our General Manager, Mr. Barry Schofield, recently indicated that tourism in Boracay is being hammered by several factors: the dwindling visits of the regional western expat travelers and local elite clients, the recent stoppage since June 25 of virtually all direct flights to Caticlan (and diversion to Kalibo) by Zest Air, Cebu Pacific, and PAL due to plane size to runway safety considerations, the swine flu rumors in the news prevalent to the Philippines, the recent direct hits from the last few typhoons, and overall disappearance in global demand for travel services. Everyone is suffering for now, even the newly opened ones like the Shangri La Boracay.” Nevertheless, Mr. Badiola went on to say, “that when the economy picks up even through traditional peak travel seasons, the first thing people will do is reward themselves and their family with some quality but affordable vacation. We remain confident that the Philippine government tirelessly promotes its tourism assets abroad, and foresee some move upward in overall tourism traffic, also as long as hotels—elite or budget—would keep their prices affordable and reasonable, in relation to value experienced by the client.”

Another unit of BHI, Fridays Boquete Island, continues to focus on the on-going construction of its 85 room Boutique Hotel in the lagoons of Puerto Galera. Expected soft opening is scheduled within the first quarter of 2010. With this in mind, the public company plans to raise an additional 80 million pesos, largely from disposal of some of its assets abroad and from within. BHI is a stakeholder and partner of Gems Cayman which owns Hong Kong based Gems International, which in turn is a partner of Macquarie in operating another fund manager, called ARF Investment Management Ltd., managing the Asia Resources Fund Limited (ARFL). ARFL is now on its fund raising activity. BHI company CEO, Jose Marcel Panlilio, stated that, “at some point BHI’s cash will be a large fraction of its market value, and so, we must channel funds to what we see as good growth but proven businesses such as resort chain development. Also BHI has an extensive set of beach properties throughout the Philippines, so the investment yield won’t be too diluted with the land acquisition aspect.” To fully complete its resort chain investments, BHI intends all in all to raise about 650 million pesos, from a combination of asset disposals, internally generated funds, and private placement with foreign private equity. BHI closed at P.10 on its last trading session.

Nostalgic Mem’ries relives the good ol’ music

It’s been a long time since I last blogged. In fact, it’s been three long weeks since I last visited and typed on this blog site. There are a number of reasons why. First is that I’ve been busy with my business, as a PR consultant for my clients here in the Philippines; second is I am a part of Fifteen Fifty Street Couture formed by my husband and friends wherein we will be launching bad-ass designed shirts; third is that I’m also busy with Jampacked Promotions Inc.- a company formed with colleagues from the same line of business with our first-ever co-produced concert Nostalgic Mem’ries.

Since it’s part of our business, allow me to blog about it (or rather promote it) and expect to read more about tshirts and events in the next posts that I will be having.

The Interview that killed Michael Jackson’s Career

I was never a loyal fan of Michael Jackson. I never cried seeing him perform. I didn’t even shed a tear when he died. But I totally admired the professional artist and the total performer that he truly was. I don’t remember myself NOT dancing or singing to his songs because I have always loved his songs. I was born in early ’70s and I had the privilege to listen to his top of the chart hits Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller, Rock With You, Smooth Criminal, and many many more. Michael Jackson had it. He had everything until an interview with Martin Bashnir came out on television 2003.

Dubbed as Living with Michael Jackson, Martin Bashnir showed everything. And literally turned the tables around on the moonwalker making him appear as a smooth criminal. The interview was very unusual, so unusual that I was glued on bed watching the entire interview. Since then, the public has never seen much of the moonwalker on television. Most americans hated Michael Jackson and all the more judged him from what was shown on that particular interview. It was carefully and deliberately edited to show the different (or rather the odd and bad) side of the King of Pop. I must say, it was a backstabbing strategy.

Few years later, news came out that Neverland was seized by the government, Michael Jackson was in hiding and in debt, Michael Jackson was sued by a number of people and organizations, and more. I could only think of one thing how these things happened. I could only blame it to that interview. He was not able to pull it all together especially that the issue involved his children. As a former child star and a parent, I think he only wants to protect his children and think of their welfare more than anything else. So when I heard about his comeback concert, I felt glad for him to be able to bring back the pieces of his life and prove that he hasn’t lost the luster that he once had.

Then came the ill-fated news on July 25, 2009. Michael Jackson died on a suspected cardiac arrest at his rented home in Los Angeles. He was no longer breathing when his body was rushed to the UCLA Medical Hospital. The news is all over the Internet. As I watch the CNN news, thoughts ran through my mind. The King of Pop is gone. He could no longer moonwalk in front of his millions of fans in London. He could no longer cheer them and sing to them. He could no longer pay his debts and gain back his lost properties. He could no longer face his critics and say, I am back! Worse, he could no longer be there to take care, guide and protect his children the way he wanted to.

I took time to search for the interviews that I’ve seen years back and wish to share it with you guys especially to those who haven’t seen it yet. Unfortunately, I could only share a few as the video is a private property. And for MJ, perhaps they would understand you now. Good that you managed to keep the child living within you. You will always be Peter Pan. Safe journey!

Maricar Reyes is finally out

Amidst the sex video lurking around the Internet and video stalls all over the metro, Maricar Reyes opted to keep her silence. Yes, she has been silent all this time. Everyone thought (and even suggested) that she confines herself abroad.  But she didn’t. Last Sunday, she came out in public and confidently sashayed down the ramp of ASAP 09 during a mini fashion show of ABS CBN Star Magic Talents.Donning a purple gown, Maricar Reyes was escorted by a co-Star Magic talent Jason Abalos and walked down the runway as elegant and lovely as she has always been.

I must say that this is such a brave act. And hopefully no one will ever ask her about the video. Does she need to explain herself? I don’t think so. All she could do now is just do her part in both her acting and medical profession. Check out this video at 3:20. Maricar is out to prove everyone that she’s just sooo back in the game and there’s no backing out. No way that she could be destroyed by a video proliferating on the Internet and even everywhere. And in the end, she would be remembered not because of Hayden Kho or a particular video but as a good actress and a model with a pretty face. Perhaps not now, not sooner. Maybe later. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. bashes Manny Pacquiao at JFK airport

This is based on a story told by a dear friend who works at the security of JFK airport who chanced upon Floyd Mayweather, Jr. sometime May 20.

One fine afternoon, this guy friend of mine was doing his usual work when a prominent personality came in. Part of the security procedure was to check all passengers. Then another security (my friend’s co-worker) jokingly told Mayweather that my friend’s a Filipino. Upon learning so, the pound for pound fighter started thrash talking the reigning IBO, RING Junior and WBC Junior Welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao saying that he won’t make money fighting the latter. He even added that he never got KO’d compared to Pacquiao who already had 2 knockouts. This egocentric boxer just wouldn’t stop criticizing and even added that, “Pacquiao doesn’t have a $3,000 pair of jeans like what I’m wearing right now.” He just went on and on so my friend just walked away thinking that one day Mayweather would eat his words.

At first glance (looking at him on national television), I knew that Mayweather’s personality is the arrogant type. Adding to that is the fact that he had won all his fights. But still, I don’t think it’s reason enough for him to have too much confidence oozing in his head because one day, he’d find his match. And who knows, that fighter would bring him down and shame him in front of his supporters. I’m not saying it’s Pacquiao because I’m a Filipino. But who knows? It could be possible. Everything is just possible. Like how Pacquiao defeated the Golden Boy Oscar Dela Hoya despite the fact that most people belittled Pacquiao’s height and reach compared to the latter.

Statistics states that 80% of the people who yack loses the game while the silent type are the deadly ones. Manny Pacquiao has always been silent in his fight. He remains calm and focused on his training.  Pacquiao vehemently puts his heart on the game as he dedicates every fight to his country. This selfless act made him won the hearts of not only Filipinos but people of different race all over. This selfless act alone, win or lose, made him already a winner. As for Mayweather, I hope that one day this self-centered guy and our very own Pacquiao would cross paths on the MGM Vegas for one enormous fight. And on this day, I am certain that many (including this author) would want him to bet his $3,000 pair of jeans for one big blow that perhaps, would bring him down.

The first time I’ve heard of the Hayden Kho-Katrina Halili affair was like six months back. People moved on thinking that it’s all over until explicit videos of the two (and two other gorgeous women) surfaced on the Internet and pirated dvd’s being sold at Quiapo stands and other free standing stalls at Php120.00 each. Some sells it at Php150.00 when a normal regular pirated movie is selling at Php50.00. Videos are now being shared by people from different industries who are curious and those who want to see some flesh of the starlet Katrina Halili, a commercial model/actress/doctor named Maricar Reyes and a Brazillian beauty whose name is yet to be identified.

Watching these videos made me think that the women involved were victims though it was pretty obvious that they gave their full consent during the sexual act. Many has shown sympathy to the women involved in the videos particularly Katrina Halili. Late last week, there had been rumors about Dr. Vicki Belo-Hayden Kho sex video. One print media was able to watch the full document. For sure a lot of people in the industry had seen it already and perhaps, shocked with what they saw. Everyone would because it’s the renowned cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo. But I bet no one would want to see Belo take her clothes off for some explicit act.

The doctor has been dragged into an awful controversy and the business has been shaky ever since. Dr. Hayden Kho appeared recently and made a public apology about what happened but no matter how sorry he was, he can never change or alter the fact that what he did is no longer a secret. No one can blame celebrity endorsers who are moving (or planning to move) to other cosmetic surgery companies especially when solid credibility and good reputation is at stake. Could this be the end of Belo Medical Group?

Last night, the Belo Medical Group relaunched Flawless at the Fort. During this time, the controversial doctor was trapped by reporters with questions about the hottest issue in the Entertainment industry today. She mentioned that this issue has caused her so much pain (personal and business wise). She even said that what happened serves as a lesson to everyone: for lawmakers to create concrete rulings about such issues and for women to refrain from luring men who are married (or taken) to get them out of trouble. The past few days, Vicki Belo has been contemplating trying to understand what happened and see the silver lining behind it. And the lessons that she can learn from it.

On the other hand, looking at the involved parties like Katrina Halili and Maricar Reyes. Could this be the end of Katrina’s career? I don’t think so. First, she acted as a heroine and a victim now gaining support from different groups and lawmakers. What about Maricar Reyes’ career (as a doctor, product endorser and celebrity)? What future lies ahead of her? It’s hard to tell but Marketing/PR strategists could only advise her to go abroad for some solitary confinement, allowing people to forget about everything. And when the issue has been covered up with another big issue, perhaps in 2 to 3 years time, she can come back for a career revamp. Apart from that, I think she should also seek counsel from psychologists and religious sectors for moral and psychological help/support. What do you think? Leave your comments.

Fun time with your kids at ActiveFun

When you’re a parent and has a growing child, you start to think which play center suits your exploring angel. And come to think of it, there are a lot of play centers in the Philippines. But which one offers the best facilities? When Zoe was less than a year old, we used to expose her to a play center called Gymboree. Until she reached 1yr old. Early this year, before Zoe turned two, a friend suggested that we visit ActiveFun. So we did. We didn’t know that their facilities are much better than that of Gymboree and others. In fact, at this age, Zoe would probably get bored if we’d bring her there.

ActiveFun is more than a play center. The name itself describes what your child can expect from them the said activity center- pure active fun! Its gigantic slides, foam balls, trampolines, obstacle and soft climbing areas (even wall climbing areas for bigger kids) allow them to explore and enhance their motor skills. It also utilizes coordination, creativity and teamwork. Indeed, it’s a great bonding moment with your kid. And I must admit, we had so much fun. But we were the ones who got tired easily (at my age 35 and my husband at 30). Mind you, one hour is not enough for kids because they just couldn’t get enough of ActiveFun. They will never be!

 

Zoe’s second time to play at ActiveFun was the time we got an invitation from a dear friend named Apple. She’s a Marketing consultant for ActiveFun and a shareholder as well. This time around, we didn’t get to play with Zoe coz our dear Aiden wanted to take care of Zoe all by himself. So we gave him that pleasure provided that Zoe’s nanny is just around to check on them while giving Aiden and Zoe ample space to play and have fun. Here’s the best part. Foodie! Little did we know that ActiveFun serves delectable dishes. Pizza and pasta were great. Everything’s superb! We just loved it. Indeed, ActiveFun is a place both for kids and adults to spend quality time together.

Friday’s Beach Resort to open branch in Puerto Galera

Everybody loves Boracay. And when we talk about Boracay, one premiere resort comes in mind. Friday’s Boracay at Station One, of course! But this time around, we’re not talking about Boracay because this world-renowned beach resort is now expanding to help boost tourism in the Philippines. Friday’s is now expanding to…. Puerto Galera! Only a few hours away from the Metro, Puerto Galera is frequented by divers, foreign and local tourists alike. With its recent ground breaking and construction of the resort-hotel at Boquete Beach in the lagoons of Puerto Galera, Friday’s Puerto Galera is expected to open next year catering to foreign and local clients, with the first 18 rooms to be opened to loyal clients before the December holiday period.

The Fridays Boquete Beach at Puerto Galera was designed to have 75 rooms, with spa and idyllic carefree resort features, and most importantly, conforming to indigenous design and environmentally blended architecture, once fully completed at end 2010. Just recently, BHI disclosed the sale of 100% of its interest in Alliance Technologies Corporation (ATC) and Avrion Systems, Inc. (ASI), old information technology (IT) industry players in the telecommunications equipment business for contact centers and enterprises.  The company declared that Alliance Technologies Corporation and Avrion Systems, Inc. would no longer be connected with the hotel, property and investment holding company.

BHI Chairman, Jose Marcel Panlilio said that, “We are mindful that our board directors, investors and clients have recognized the value of investment and concentration in the resort hotel business. Selling ATC and ASI is a major decision and a challenge that we have to face. With the current economic crisis, the company decided to invest in something that will help the country boost tourism and gain premium profits as well. The yield is better.” 

The company expects to add to overall sales with the full opening of Fridays Boquete Beach at Puerto Galera at the end of 2010.  According to Mrs. Nicole Morris, Sr. Adviser to Fridays Resorts, “There have already been many pre-bookings for the Fridays Puerto Galera unit from our loyal client lists of 29,000 repeat guests from the Fridays Boracay Resort.  We are hopeful with the right execution of the project we shall deliver.”

BHI also estimates the employment of 220 people for Friday’s Puerto Galera, tourism being deemed as an alternative to help fight unemployment in the country. With this, Panlilio remarked, “Resort developers like us and many others, for as long as they continue to do sensible and environmentally blended resorts and resort destination infrastructure, while getting their economic payback, will help the country ease its way out of the global slump and temporary tourism decline.”

Remembering Mom on Mother’s day

More often, we fail to thank our mom for all the things that she does. As a kid, we would complain about her rules. As a teenager, all we do is to defy her rules and worse, rebel. But we fail to look at the good side of her- like how she sacrificed a lot of things to be able to take care of us. And all the things that she had to undergo just so she could provide for our needs. Little did we know that our mothers’ wish is our happiness and safety. Like what they always say, “Mother knows best.”

This day and every day of her lives, let us all remember our moms and thank them for all the things they had done for us. A simple hug will do and no amount of material gifts would ever match that.

Pacquiao-Hatton fight: East beats West

A day before the Pacquiao-Hatton fight, I asked friends, colleagues and clients their opinion of the much-awaited East meets West fight. 99% gave their bold predictions that Manny Pacquiao would bag the 140 Welterweight division belt. And yes, they were right. The roaring chant of Brits did not last long when their English brawler/hero knocked down on two rounds. We were all amazed with Pacquiao’s unpredictable shots, especially that he was using his right hand this time to knock him out on the first round. 

The all-talk English brawler went flat on the floor gasping for air with nothing but humiliation. Well, at least he’s got $8 Million. But what’s he got to say? What’s he thinking now? Those English guys totally wasted their money for airfare to watch a game that only lasted for like, 6 minutes. Tsk tsk. Well, that’s life. Pacquiao just gave him a lesson and this time around, Hatton has only one option… to move on and forget about this day, hoping that this fight was just a dream and that it never happened at all.

Pound for pound champ, People’s Champ, Mexecutioner– these are just a few of the titles given to the ultimate Filipino boxer, Manny Pacquiao. That General Santos kid who once boarded the ship to hit the Manila boxing scene has certainly gone a long way. That 12-year old kid who slept on the streets with nothing to eat had only one thing then– passion. Looking back, Pacquiao was a rough fighter (good yet rough) and lacks scientific training. Most of his fights were based on speed. He didn’t have much strategy then. But his faith and determination clearly states that this kid will go a long way. And he did. Thanks to Roach who was responsible for all the quick, good moves that Pacquiao is now showing.

Today, Pacquiao’s career truly blossomed. He is now deemed as one of the powerful man in the Philippines bagging several awards in and out of the country. Among the biggest awards he got was the “Fighter of the Year” award, a Philippine Legion of Honor by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and now, he even holds an honorary doctorate degree (that College graduates will never have unless they study and work hard for it). With a number of International endorsements, an invitation to throw the first pitch at Giants game, hollywood celebrities and famous personalities rooting for him, Pacquiao is no doubt, a global household name. He even landed on the 22nd spot of  TIME Magazine’s Most Influential People poll.

Just recently, CNN’s Talk Asia had a light and interesting conversation with our very own Manny Pacquiao. It dealt with Manny’s life before he became famous, his boxing career, his native country, his ultimate desire to help his townmates and thus, his intention to run for politics for the second time around. I particularly liked the interview because it showed the sincere Manny Pacquiao. TV Journalist Anjali Rao did a very good job asking for the right questions although I hate to think that the Filipino champ didn’t give all the right answers. Hehe. But it was good. Family: Building relationships

Raising a child is never an easy job. It isn’t just about giving him what he wants rather giving him what he needs. It isn’t just about putting him in a good school but giving him the best education that he deserves. It isn’t about teaching him ABC’s, figures and more but teaching him moral values that he will benefit from as he gets older. It isn’t about the expensive toys and stuff that we give him but the kind of love that we show him. It’s about spending time with them especially when they needed us most that they realize how much we love them.

As a parent, I realized now what my mother and grandparents had to go through to be able to raise me. And how difficult it was especially that I am an only daughter. Late this afternoon while reading a whole lot about Yasmin Ahmad and watching tvc’s that the exceptional director has done, I chanced upon this video about Family. Although we had a comfortable life when I was young, this video still reminded me of my mom and grandparents. And how I sometimes could be difficult. Perhaps, most of us were when we were kids.

However, growing up has learned me valuable lessons in life. Now that I have Zoe I realized that true enough, parents will do more than anything to be able to provide for a child just so we could give happiness to our little one. Less than two weeks from now, we will be celebrating Mothers’ day while Fathers’ day is roughly a month away. I hope that this video will bring lessons to children to become selfless and be more mindful of their parents, just as what Yasmin Ahmad had in mind before filming this tv commercial. Let’s embrace our parents more… and even often as they wish to.

Miss California feels sorry for Perez Hilton

The answer to a controversial question on the recently-held Miss USA beauty pageant created an issue between a blogger, Perez Hilton and a beauty candidate, Carrie Prejean. Perez Hilton certainly didn’t like Miss California’s answer to a question he hurled upon her simply because he was expecting something else– like the judge’s gender (or maybe not) and opinion. However, the said Miss USA judge didn’t even consider that as an individual, Miss California could and may have a different opinion as well.

Although there were speculations that Miss California could’ve won the crown, the beauty candidate obviously didn’t quite consider that and answered the question based on her faith and morals.
